Abstract:

The objective of this article is to study the Spanish women who arrived to Veracruz in New Spain and their participation in the construction of the New World during the sixteenth century. The presence of women in that period of the construction of the viceregal order is identified from a perspective of the daily environment. From the “call letters”, the preparations, and the realization of the journey, the text analyzes the activity of women and describes the strategies developed to bring other women in a process of chain migration, based on kinship and friendship ties. It starts from a perspective that center its attention on women’s active participation in their drive towards upward mobility.
