Abstract:

This paper focuses on the actions carried out by the Spanish forces that, as part of the tripartite alliance, occupied the port of Veracruz between the end of 1861 and the beginning of 1862. From this perspective, the research refers to the intelligence work carried out by the Spanish high command previously, which was reflected in the elaboration of several reports, maps and plans with the intention of guaranteeing success in case of a future attack against Veracruz. Likewise, the article details how the expeditionary army, needing to control of the region between Veracruz, Xalapa and Orizaba and prepare for a possible incursion towards the country’s capital, carried out a careful geographical reconnaissance during its stay in Veracruz.
