Cartografía y estadística de Tlaxcala, 1849: argumento histórico y territorialidad

Existen tres documentos relacionados con Tlaxcala para el año 1849: Plano del Territorio de Tlaxcala, Carta corográfica del Territorio de Tlaxcala ―ambos resguardados en la Mapoteca Manuel Orozco y Berra― y una Representación que la diputación territorial de Tlaxcala elevó al Congreso general, la cual contiene otro documento, Breves noticias estadísticas. En este artículo se desarrolla un análisis de estas fuentes y su contexto de emisión, en torno a un tema discursivo: la justificación de la existencia de Tlaxcala como un componente legítimo de la república mexicana. El estudio se concentra en el uso conjunto de elementos científicos y pautas retóricas, así como en el fuerte componente territorial y foral de la identidad tlaxcalteca.

Abstract:

There are three documents related with Tlaxcala for the year 1849: Plan of the Territory of Tlaxcala, Chorographic Letter of the Territory of Tlaxcala ―both preserved in the Map library Manuel Orozco y Berra―, and one the Representation elevated to the General Congress by the Territorial Deputation of Tlaxcala, which contains another document, Brief Statistical News. This article develops an analysis of these sources and the context of their publication centering on the discursive theme of the justification of the existence of Tlaxcala as a legitimate component of the Mexican Republic. The study focuses on the joint use of scientific elements and rhetorical guidelines, as well as in the strong territorial and foral component of Tlaxcalan identity.
